Christina Bothwell: Screen Memories
July 30th – September 12th, 2025Opening Reception July 30th, 6-8 PM.
Melding her lucid dreams and extraordinary empathy with her observations of the world, Christina Bothwell creates material objects that are spiritual and emotional confessions of her interest in birth, death, and renewal. Often taking the form of fantastic beings and strange creatures, her works are imbued with a sense of wonder and hope. Bothwell is fascinated with what lies beneath the surface and her pieces allow us to enter into her fertile subconscious and reveal a vulnerability we may recognize as akin to our own.
Originally trained as a painter, Bothwell studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Will Barnett. Over time she gradually moved to working three-dimensionally using cast glass and ceramics as well as found objects. Bothwell has won numerous scholarships and grants. Her work is held in more than a dozen permanent public collections including the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning NY; Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; Shanghai Museum of Glass Art, Shanghai, China; Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL; Palm Springs Museum, Palm Springs, CA and the Alexander Tutsek Foundation, Munich, Germany.
