Catch the Light: Glass Fusing for Teens (FREE)

June 6th, 2025
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Join us for a free glass fusing workshop, just for teens! Create your own colorful suncatcher through the process of brainstorming, sketching, cutting, arranging, and gluing an eclectic array of glass. We will provide three types of glass: sheet glass, crushed glass (frit) as well as stringers, which are spaghetti-shaped glass. By the end of the workshop, all suncatchers will be placed inside the kilns to be fired and fused. Sign up and invite your friends; there are 25 spots available for teens ages 13-18! Registration is first come first serve.

What to Expect: With guidance from UrbanGlass’ high school Education Interns, Brianna Lodge and Rosally Kuczek, you will learn and experiment with glass to create a suncatcher. The suncatchers will be attached to a copper ring so it can be hung above a window, doorway, outside and more! There will be a maximum of two suncatchers per person. The first few minutes of the workshop will be a demonstration of how to use important tools such as the glass cutters, wheeled glass nippers, and pliers. Please arrive on time!Fusing involves a mix of seated and standing activities. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity. To learn more about accessibility please visit the Accessibility page on our website.

Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 13-18.

Pick-Up: The glass needs to be fused in the kiln and cooled down overnight, so students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work. Please allow up to 1 week. This is an in-person workshop taking place on-site at UrbanGlass.
