Drawing with Glass: From Frozen to Metamorphosis

December 8th - December 9th
Kate Clements |

This workshop will explore drawing with frit, often considered an accessory glass, to make it the centerpiece of the work. Students will work with simple tools to create complex patterns and images, and will  experiment with temperature in the kiln to melt and merge the glass to achieve different textures. We will work with heat to capture the gesture of the hand, playing with color to create form and light and shadow to create depth. Demonstrations and discussions will show how to push the boundaries of fragility and the potential of material transformation. Students should bring reference images to translate into glass.
