UrbanGlass Partners with ART360º for Beadmaking at Cuyler Gore Park, Rain or Shine!

Beadmaking is one of the most ancient forms of glass, and also one of the most accessible and mobile. We were delighted to share this storied art form with Fort Greene residents at the pop-up ART360º event hosted by FAB Fulton on a rainy Saturday this May.

Park visitors of all ages were entranced with a live beadmaking demonstration by artist Maria Aroche. Maria is an alumna of the Bead Project, UrbanGlass’ 10-week scholarship program designed for economically disadvantaged womxn to learn the art of beadmaking and entrepreneurship skills. The free program helps participants build self-confidence through learning a new craft, along with business skills to sell their work. Maria is an expert beadmaker whose narrated demonstration sparked joy and inspiration for members of the community who were curious to learn more about the craft.

For those interested in continuing to learn at home, we were thrilled to give away over 40 free Bead Stringing kits with generous support from FAB Fulton. These kits are the newest project in our lineup of fun and educational art activity kits, each containing one special glass bead handmade at UrbanGlass and everything you need to string a unique beaded bracelet, necklace, or ornament at home.

If you missed the event, these kits will be available in our UrbanGlass|ware store soon! Check out our other at-home activity kits currently available for purchase here. Gift these kits to the creative people in your life, or enjoy them yourself for a fun an educational project.
