URBANGLASS’ 40TH ANNIVERSARY

On May 16th, UrbanGlass marked its 40th anniversary at its annual Gala and Auction, held at their building in Ft Greene, Brooklyn. A celebration of this important milestone, the evening also honored the contributions of artist Thaddeus Wolfe and gallerists Katya and Doug Heller to the organization and field at large.

Following cocktails in the organization’s Agnes Varis Art Center, guests proceeded to a seated dinner, where UrbanGlass’ gala Co-Chair Glenn Adamson remarked on his own recent exhilarating attempts at glassblowing and highlighted the importance of the organization’s work, which has provided generations of artists opportunities to learn about and experiment with glass. The evening wrapped up with a live auction with auctioneer CK Swet.

Following dinner guests joined an After-Party in UrbanGlass’ 17,000 square foot studio, where visitors enjoyed Woman Up, a performance conceived of by artist Deborah Czeresko, which celebrated the presence of women in the glass community by featured more than 20 artists in pink jumpsuits blowing glass and flameworking.

Among those attending include Lindsey Adelman, Rob Wynne, Jeffrey Beers, Cody Hoyt, Kambui Olujimi, Evan Snyderman, Thaddeus Wolfe, Zesty Meyers, Andi Potamkin, Olivia Song, Doug and Katya Heller, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Suzanne Perrault, Christian Larsen, Susie Silbert, Samantha De Tillio, Joe Upham (co-founder), and Richard Yelle (co-founder).
