FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UrbanGlass and BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn in the former Strand Theater Receive Award from the Public Design Commission

The façade design for the former Strand Theater building which houses UrbanGlass and BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn (BRIC), was recognized Wednesday night at the 28th Annual Awards for Excellence in Design by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the Public Design Commission of the City of New York. The awards recognize outstanding public projects that exemplify high-quality design and the winning projects are selected by the members of the Design Commission from the hundreds of submissions reviewed each year.

The UrbanGlass and BRIC Strand Theater renovation is a project of the Economic Development Corporation, the Department of Cultural Affairs, and BRIC and UrbanGlass, in collaboration with Leeser Architecture.

Designed by Leeser Architecture, the UrbanGlass and BRIC Projects in the former Strand Theater will bring the expansion and upgrade of UrbanGlass and BRIC Arts | Media House, a new state-of –the art facility for BRIC.

Executive Director Dawn Bennett says: "Leeser Architecture's innovative design succeeds admirably in capturing both the full creative potential of the exciting medium of glass that is the focus of our organization, and in expressing the values of UrbanGlass: openness, accessibility, artistic innovation. For the first time in its almost 30 year history, UrbanGlass, the first open-access glassworking facility in the United States, will be able to present a visible, attractive and welcoming face to the world.
