How Joseph Mizzi, President of Sciame Construction, Spends His Sundays

Joseph Mizzi, the president of Sciame, a construction company that specializes in architecturally sophisticated projects, is not your typical hard-hat-wearing tough guy. He’s a pescatarian, a patron of the arts and a co-founder of the 14 + Foundation, a nonprofit that builds schools in Africa. On Sundays Mr. Mizzi, 49, might slow his pace but he’s always working, whether visiting a dormant construction site or an artist’s studio, or corresponding with Nchimunya Wulf, a co-founder of the foundation. He lives alone in a one-bedroom in a high-rise on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

ART IN THE AFTERNOON If I’m going to go to a museum, I’d rather go to a museum I’m involved with. We built the High Line Phase 3, so sometimes I’ll go down there. I’ll visit the Judd Foundation. I like to do art-based activities with friends, like blowing glass at UrbanGlass on Fulton Street in Brooklyn. My company built it two years ago. It’s a facility I’m connected to.
