Sheila Checkoway

Instructor

‘Making glass beads is my passion.’  Sheila finds inspiration in nature, her extensive world travels, anywhere and everywhere!  Her style is described as a mixture of organic and bling: other lampworkers and jewelry designers describe her beads as ‘different’ and ‘unique’. Sheila makes her beads at Elsie Kaye Glassworks in Westborough MA where she also skillfully teaches all aspects of soft glass bead-making . She relishes the contagious energy of her students thriving to achieve their own style. Melting glass since 1996 in a hot shop and making glass beads since 2008, Sheila has ‘met a wonderful cadre of creatives who share their knowledge and expertise willingly and enthusiastically.’

Sheila takes a business decision to sell her glass beads to jewelry artists and crafters at northeast bead shows and online www.CheckowayGlass.Etsy.com and does sell some finished jewelry at bead shows. Each bead is a unique work of art, and she often creates sets of beads that just need your finishing touch. Her workshops are an opportunity to share in her enthusiasm and garner an array of skills.
