Efrat Lipkin

Instructor

Efrat Lipkin was born in Israel, in 1984. Formerly from Tel Aviv, she is currently establishing her practice in New York City following her graduation from the Yale School of Art. Lipkin creates large scale installations, combining industrial materials into architectural, engineered, and detailed systems. Lipkin’s approach to the investigation of materials, their resonance and functions, as means of an emotional physics, has resulted in a still-developing vocabulary of strange technical forms. Her Installations and drawings ask the viewer to examine a site within space, form a narrative through sensation, to establish new ways to engage with the constraints of reality.

Lipkin received a B.A. from Hamidrasha School of Art, Israel (2011), and an M.F.A. from Yale University, School of Art (2020). Lipkin has exhibited in a variety of public and artist-run spaces in Tel Aviv. An Artist-teacher, Efrat, has taught in public educational institutions in Israel as a way to broaden the communication of Art to youth. At Yale, Lipkin received the Susan H. Whedon Honorary Award, in recognition of an outstanding graduating student in Sculpture, and the Alice Kimball English Traveling Fellowship. Following a residency at the Pilchuck Glass School, her practice has expanded through the use of glasswork.
