Bianca Abreu received her BFA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute with a concentration in Installation. In her final semester, she discovered her love for glass and an exploration of metals with the material came shortly after. Since then she has transitioned to small scale works within her practice. Inspired by optics, light and color play, her current body of work is an expression of metals and glass in a wearable state. She creates both functional and non-functional jewelry that is sensitive to fluorescent light. By way of lamp working, she shapes each glass piece over a 2000 degree flame, where all parts are then hand-cut, cold-worked and set into pieces that highlight their intense optic qualities. She expresses her love of the materials with her permanent collection and one-of-a-kind pieces.
