Born in Brooklyn, self-taught artist Ayana Benjamin creates glass jewelry with oceanic inspirations, fiber art and hand lettering under the brand name Ayana B. Joy. Drawing inspiration from her Grenadian background, Ayana crafts items that are associated with her island roots, indigenous culture, tropical themes, and her passion for calligraphy. Her interests shifted to working on her glass ocean findings as a sustainable material, using sandblasting processes for design, and pushing the boundaries of glass application techniques when she completed the Bead Project in the spring of 2023.
