Auzzie Dodson is a Louisville (Looahvuhl), KY native interdisciplinary artist with a focus in sculptural basket weaving and glass. They are a 2022 UW-Madison graduate and First Wave 11th co. alumni. They currently reside in Brooklyn, NY where they have deepened their knowledge of glass as a Studio Futures Alum and Bead Project student. Their work is dedicated to the observation and conversation between natural mediums and society. Inspired by artists like Bisa Butler, Titus Kaphar, Faith Ringgold, and Toni Morrison, Auzzie’s work celebrates heritage while addressing internal/external shame through bold color, pattern, text, and texture. Their belief is that art is inherently communal and serves as a space to spark thought, reflect on experiences, heal, witness, and hold each other accountable.
