Althea Holden was born and raised in Vermont. She attended Alfred University for ceramics, but soon strayed off that path and into hot glass and neon. During her studies, she had the good fortune to participate in a Travelling Kinetics Exhibition led by Prof. Fred Tschida. The group visited New Orleans, which made a lasting impression. Eventually, Althea relocated to New Orleans and went to work at Studio Inferno as a production hotcaster and assistant to Mitchell Gaudet and then earned her MFA from Tulane University. Often, she spent summers working at Pilchuck Glass School to escape the Louisiana heat, and had the pleasure of meeting many amazing artists. Her work is inspired by the playfulness of the casting process and a fondness for found objects. She continues to live and work in New Orleans and exhibits nationally.
