HELP WANTED: Urban Glass announces search for director of education

Urban Glass has launched a search for a director of education to lead its successful teaching programs that reach over 3,000 students a year at this leading Brooklyn, New York, nonprofit arts center. The UrbanGlass studios accommodate a wide-range of glassmaking techniques, and feature a dedicated educational hotshop, flame working studio, extensive kilnworking facilities, as well as areas for mosaics and neon.  

The successful applicant for UrbanGlass education director will manage a unique array of diverse programming that draws students and instructors from around the U.S. and the world. The position requires a vision and a network of contacts that allows the education director to develop unique courses and maintain community engagement across all audience types. The job will require practical administration as well, such as developing the curriculum, overseeing scheduling, collaborating with the development department, and managing a complex budget. 

The ideal candidate for the position will bring seven or more years of experience in arts education, be highly organized, a problem-solver, and possess the skills necessary to build and maintain important relationships. With a proven ability to communicate effectively and to work collaboratively, the candidate will demonstrate knowledge of art history, contemporary art, and the current world of glass as well as a passion for the medium.
