Help Wanted: Tenure-track assistant professorship in Indiana

Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, is looking to fill a tenure-track faculty position beginning August 17, 2012. According to an official description of the position of assistant professor of glass arts, the successful candidate will be required to teach a range of art and glass courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, contribute to the maintenance and operation of the department’s glass arts studios, engage in research and artistic output, and serve as an advocate for the glass arts within the university and in the larger community.

Minimum qualifications: MFA in glass; record of scholarly/creative productivity appropriate to the rank of Associate; demonstrated expertise in at least one area of glass art production—glass blowing, casting, torch working, or kiln forming; successful teaching of a wide range of glass art production techniques at the college level; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the department, the university, and the community.

Preferred qualifications: experience teaching and advising graduate students in glass media and/or sculptural media; significant record of exhibitions and professional accomplishments such as grant writing; demonstrated expertise in multiple areas of glass production—blowing, casting, kiln-work and cold work; knowledge of the history and criticism of the glass arts; experience developing glass arts curricula at the undergraduate and graduate level; demonstrated ability to construct and maintain glass shop equipment.
