Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington is currently searching for a qualified applicant to fill the position of Director of Development and Communications. This full-time, year-round position requires that someone with extensive fundraising and marketing experience head all of Pratt’s fundraising campaigns and the organization of marketing strategies. Responsibilities include organizing major sponsor solicitations for annual fundraising events, all marketing and communications related activities, as well as grant proposals and database management. Those interested in the position should be prepared to move quickly, as the fast approaching deadline for applications is this Wednesday, April 6.
As the position of Director of Development and Communications opens, Pratt prepares to lose their current director, Grace Meils. Meils has spent a little over ten years living and working in Seattle, and became involved with the glass community through her time working at Traver Gallery, the Seattle Art Museum, the Center on Contemporary Art, and now Pratt.
Previous to her employment at the Center, Meils was working at Seattle’s Traver Gallery organizing fundraising, marketing, and public relations. Beginning this April she will resume working at Traver as co-director of the Seattle and Tacoma galleries alongside Sarah Traver. “We have complementary skill sets, which makes collaborating on projects really satisfying,” said Meils, looking forward to the move. “Plus, I just really love working with the artists and collectors. I just couldn’t ask for a better gig.”
Those interested in applying to fill Meils shoes are expected by Pratt to be self-motivated and flexible in terms of working as a part of a close team as well as individually, and also comfortable managing many unique tasks within a sometimes stressful environment. The job description notes that although the position is exempt from over-time, the director must be prepared to work with a flexible schedule sometimes including night hours, year-round and full-time.
The Director is responsible for overseeing annual fundraising efforts, grant writing, application management, sponsorship solicitation for programs, marketing and communications activities, fundraising for capital projects, and participating in board committees.
Qualifications include at least five years of successful fundraising experience, as well as a background in marketing and organizational skills. Applicants should have completed their BA in a related field, and who are confident in their capability to communicate, lead a team, and personally manage the institutions finances and proposals with regards to fundraising. Because the director is responsible for all fundraising programs such as the annual fund campaign, foundation giving, government grants and corporate support, successful applicants must be trained in working with a diverse range of people including donors, artist and trustees.
To apply mail a resume to Michelle Bufano as soon as possible at: Pratt Fine Arts Center, 1902 South Main St, Seattle WA 98144; or email application materials to mbufano@pratt.org.
