Call for Donations: Dan Klein Memorial Fund accepting artworks

A fund set up in memory of Dan Klein (1938 – 2009) supports one of his most passionate causes: North Lands Creative Glass.

Artists looking for a way to donate to the Dan Klein Memorial Fund set up in 2009 to honor the life and work of Dan Klein (1938 – 2009) are encouraged to designate a single work of art that will be included in an upcoming exhibition. When this work is sold, the proceeds can be sent to North Lands Creative Glass, the nonprofit arts center on the northeast coast of Scotland.

Alan J. Poole, Klein’s partner who is continuing to run Dan Klein Glass, explained how the idea came about in a prepared statement. “Since Dan unexpectedly passed away at the end of June last year, numerous artists have said that they would be delighted to donate a piece of their work for sale, the proceeds from which to go to the Dan Klein Memorial Fund which has been set up to honour his memory and to further his much loved project, North Lands Creative Glass.”

Poole, who is on the North Land’s board of directors as well as its advisory board, says that the simplest way for everyone involved, is to have individual artists earmark a work for donation, and, when it sells, to send the money to the Dan Klein Memorial Fund.

“If their gallery wishes to donate a part or all of their commission, all well and good, but obviously we feel it only fair to leave this to the gallery’s discretion,” wrote Poole. “Knowing how much Dan contributed to the world of contemporary/studio glass, both at home and internationally, I am sure that some galleries would be happy to participate.”

Poole asks that artists send an image of their work so that news of the donation can be sent to help publicize the sale.

“Artists could let us know when and where their exhibition would be taking place so that information could be sent out to buyers and museum curators via my extensive email list (Dan Klein Associates), North Lands website, and, hopefully, the artist’s client base and websites too,” writes Poole. “An image of the piece would also be useful to circulate and for North Lands website information.”

For information on where to send an image of your work and donations email Lorna MacMillan at North Lands Creative Glass or call 01 593 721 229.
