Call for Applications: North Lands Creative Glass Offers 2011 Residency

Located on the windswept northeast coast of Scotland, North Lands Creative Glass offers dramatic seaside surroundings and a contemplative atmosphere.

Four selected glass artists will be given free use of the the North Lands Alastair Pilkington Studio for six weeks, from March 28th through May 8th, 2011, as part of this far-flung glass center’s hot glass residency program. Chosen artists will be offered lodgings (though utilities are not included) and access to the North Lands Creative Glass Hot Workshop. A stipend of £400 (approx. $625) is included to help with travel costs and living expenses.

In exchange for this unique opportunity to develop their work, artists may be called upon to donate up to one day each week to North Lands’ outreach activities, are asked to donate a piece to the North Lands permanent collection, and should provide documentation about work made during the residency for the glass center’s publicity purposes. In addition, residency recipients are asked to be ambassadors for the program and the center that sponsors it.

If you are interested in applying, you will need to email a resume and a one-page statement explaining:

—The work you intend to pursue during the residency period including techniques and processes

—How the residency will benefit your artistic and career development.

—What you intend to accomplish.

In addition, applicants are requested to submit 10 images of their work, and an information sheet; twoletters of recommendation; a one-paragraph bio; a stamped, self-addressed envelope for returning of slides; and a completed application form.
