Next year will be a major anniversary for contemporary studio glass in America. The movement will celebrate its fiftieth birthday in 2012 and the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass is currently putting together a large slate of events to commemorate the occasion. While the details regarding specific events are still being finalized, AACG has announced that they are currently accepting applications from institutions and organizations in need of support for special exhibitions and programming that commemorates this milestone. The first grant cycle wraps up September 1st, a second cycle ends March 1st and a final cycle (if needed) that ends next September. Applications for later grant cycles are being accepted on a rolling basis. Grants will be awarded until all available funds are distributed.
In order to be eligible for a grant the project must take place, at least in part, in 2012. The selection committee will take several other variables into account before deciding on awards, including applicant reputation, estimated size of audience, range and quality of work, budget devoted to presentation, the relationship between the show and the 50-year celebration, and the nature and quality of public programming. The award amounts vary based on those criteria and generally cover only a small portion of the exhibition’s cost, however awards that cover all or a major portion of those expenses related to public programs will be considered.
If you are interested in applying, requests for funding must be typed on the application form (available in both Microsoft Word format and in Acrobat pdf format) and submitted with the cover page. Brief responses are preferred, however if additional space is needed extra pages can be added.
Submissions must include twelve copies of the entire application, including cover letter, application form, and all attachments, collated and stapled or clipped. Applications should be submitted to:
