Have you ever noticed all the glass you encounter every day in the city? From mosaics in the subway to windows in skyscrapers, glass makes our city a more vibrant and exciting place.

Join us for Open Studios: Summer in the City and discover the many ways glass shapes the world around us with an afternoon of art making and exciting demonstrations in UrbanGlass’ 17,000 sq ft studios. Sign up for one activity or try them all!

*Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver*

Bead Project Market — FREE: Celebrate local artists and shop stunning handmade jewelry created by alumni of The Bead Project scholarship program at UrbanGlass.

Demonstrations — FREE: Curious about the glass techniques behind the objects we interact with everyday? Watch professional glassblowers sculpt with molten glass, see how glass is wound around a mandrel (steel rod) to create wearable beads, and learn how borosilicate glass (the hi-temp glass used in science labs and pyrex bakeware) can be welded together to create large-scale sculptures (all ages with chaperone).

Faux Stained Glass Pendant & Bead Stringing — FREE: Get inspired by glass techniques and create art using everyday materials. Make a summer themed “stained glass” pendant, or string colorful beads into a wearable creation to take home with you — or both! Group activity (all ages with chaperone).

Upcycled Bud Vase — FREE: Give waste glass new life! Cut your own vinyl stencils to transform a glass bottle into a beautiful bud vase that plays on shiny and frosted textures. Group activity (all ages with chaperone).

Glassblowing Mini Bowl — $75: Play with molten glass and learn how to make a small colorful bowl to hold your summer fruits and berries. One-on-one lesson (ages 12+), 30 minutes.

Objects made during the lesson must cool slowly overnight, so please plan to return the following week for pickup, or contact us to arrange shipping.

Beadmaking — $45: Melt colorful glass rods in the flame of a table torch to create your very own wearable beads. One-on-one lesson (ages 12+), 30 minutes.

Objects made during the lesson must cool slowly overnight, so please plan to return the following week for pickup, or contact us to arrange shipping.

Fused Coaster — $35: Design a picture or pattern and layer pieces of sheet glass into a colorful coaster that will get melted together in the kiln. Group lesson (all ages with chaperone), 30 minutes.

Objects made during the lesson must cool slowly overnight, so please plan to return the following week for pickup, or contact us to arrange shipping.
