Manuel Gorkiewicz: five glasses and a carafe

Exhibitions

UrbanGlass|ware is pleased to present a new edition by Austrian artist Manuel Gorkiewicz. Curated by Rome-based curatorial agency GoldenRuler, and hand blown by maestro Davide Fuin in Murano, the glasses and carafe are loosely based on a famous series by Adolf Loos for Lobmeyr.

The principle behind the glasses is simple- industrially produced parts of plastic bottles, usually seen as the lowest form of beverage container, are mouth blown by one of the great Venetian masters of the wine goblet. Interested in the origins of the plastic bottle, Gorkiewicz found his way to glass, to which plastic bottles refer.

Known for works that cross boundaries between art, design, and architecture, Gorkiewicz has shown his work in Kunstwerke Berlin, the London Design Museum, and 21 Haus Vienna.

In store from November 21st. Each edition contains five glasses and carafe. $700.

Opening reception will take place on November 21st, 6 - 8pm in conjunction with the opening for Alli Hoag’s exhibition.
