Heidi Mortensen: Holding Memory

July 23rd – September 12th, 2025
Exhibitions

Closing Reception September 10 from 6-8 PM.

Holding Memory is an installation of mixed media sculptural work featuring cast glass combined with fabric, ceramic, and sand. Coupling the desire to retain fragile remembrances with forms that pull sharply or possess spiky exteriors. This work delves into the deep connection we retain to places of home and how loss and displacement leave us in the realm of memory.

About the Artist -

Heidi Mortensen works in sculpture and installation. Pulling from personal history and using elements related to the body, nature, and the space of the home, she explores themes of loss, connection to place, and memory. Her detailed work involves casting in glass, metal, resin, and plaster, and incorporates clay, wood, thread, fabrics, ash, salvaged and personal objects.

Mortensen received a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Hawai’i and MFA in the Sculpture Dimensional Studies program at Alfred University, New York. In between these two degrees she pursued atelier training in figure sculpting at the Barcelona Academy of Art to deepen her understanding of the architecture of the human body. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions and in 2024 she received a fellowship to the Cite Internationale des Arts Residency in Paris, France.
