Ten artists. Ten stories. Ten pieces of glass.
Gathering Lessons is an experimental storytelling theatre piece set in the UrbanGlass Hot Shop. Featuring ten original short plays performed in a random order as decided by the audience, the piece explores the relationship between craft practice and community building by pairing the plays with a live collaborative glassmaking demo. The audience will be presented with a menu of ten small sculptures, one per artist, from which to select the next component to be attached to the collaborative piece. Each sculpture will have a relationship with one of the ten plays. By selecting the next glass piece, the audience also chooses the order of the plays simultaneously creating a one-time and one-time only theatre piece and a directly translated archival glass sculpture.
This piece is a real time experiment put together in 10 days. Some of us have been working with glass for a decade, some of us have only touched glass three times. Some of us have performed off-broadway, some of us have never been on the stage. We thank you for joining us in this investigation and can't wait to share it with you!
