Breathe and Stop is a breathing installation where artist Doreen Garner explores the potential of inflatables and their ability to expand and collapse to avoid sacrificing scale. Comprised of bright red plastic bags that are bound together using an iron, Breathe and Stop represents the respiratory system. The sculpture is activated to simulate breathing with discrete desk fans, which are programmed using an arduino to create fluctuating speed and power. Breathe and Stop serves as a central and visible organ to the entire building and bridges the disconnection between the insides and outsides of the human body for people walking by.
