As we say goodbye to Summer and hello to Fall, we want to take a moment to appreciate the incredible community at UrbanGlass! This past June, we kicked off the season with a potluck get-together to celebrate our students! Folks come in to take classes through our Adult workshops, university programs, youth camps, private lessons, and scholarship opportunities like the Bead Project and Studio Futures. UrbanGlass is a unique and vibrant place because of our community, and we were overjoyed to spend time with each other and celebrate the work that everyone has done!
In preparation of the party, we in the Education team treated ourselves to a DIY button maker, and created pins with names of each studio area; which included the flat shop, flame shop, neon shop, mold shop, cold shop, and hot shop. As people started rolling in, they took pins to represent each of the studio areas they’ve worked in!
Throughout the evening, we projected images of the incredible artwork that students have been making both in and out of UrbanGlass. Students shared their blown glassware, flameworked jewelry, sculpture, stained glass, photography, painting, and drawings! It was inspiring to see the many talents of our community and share what we’ve all learned with one another.
The party culminated with an energetic raffle where students bought $5 tickets to win glassy prizes curated by the Education team! Prizes ranged from highly coveted supplies like mystery bags of color bar for glassblowing and soft glass rods for beadmaking; to hilarious oddball items like an old computer monitor or an overlooked set of funky glass tiles for mosaics! The more tickets you bought, the more chances you had to win!
We are so grateful for the student body at UrbanGlass, and can’t wait to plan the next get-together! We hope to see you there!
