CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Deadline nears for submissions for prestigious 2018 glass residency at Southern Illinois University Carbondale

Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale glass program is currently accepting applications from professional glass artists for a semester-long residency (from August 20th to December 14th, 2018). The application, which is due on February 22nd, is open to both national and international artists (the latter must meet requirements for the University’s J-1 VISA Exchange Visitors).

As expressed in the application guidelines, "The artist-in-residence program is one of the activities that promote a vibrant creative environment in the SIU Glass program." The artist-in-residence is invited to work side-by-side with students in the glass studio, as well as participate in the collaborations, reviews, critiques, and demonstrations that are all part of SIU glass program's academic activities. Towards the end of the residence, the artist is awarded with an exhibition through which they can further share their work with the SIU community.

While in residence at SIU, the artist will be granted a personal studio space and will have access to all of the glass program's facilities including a hot glass studio, kilns, and a cold glass studio. Through both SIU Glass and Southern Glass works, they will also receive $4,000 to spend on any expenses during the residency. Any costs exceeding this amount, as well as the cost of a local apartment, is the responsibility of the artist-in-residence.

Several internationally known glass artists have completed residencies with the SIU glass program in the past including: Amy Rueffert, Jennifer Halvorson, Takeshi Fukunishi, Scott Chaseling, Anne Petters, Aya Oki, and Joshua Hershman.
