Major Duties
Under the direction of the art faculty and art department chair, the incumbent will coordinate the operation of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional instructional labs/studios and equipment in the art department. The incumbent will maintain studio facilities and supplies, and repair and maintain in good working order all studio equipment. Incumbent will be responsible for sourcing materials, supplies, and equipment and researching new technologies to meet programmatic needs. The incumbent will be responsible for inventory and purchasing, and prepare requisitions and make procurement card orders for supplies and equipment. Incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a high level of health and safety in the instructional and lab/studio areas and will serve as the health and safety officer for the art department. Then incumbent will is responsible for the proper disposal of hazardous materials in concert with university policy and State and Federal law. The incumbent will assist faculty and students with use and handling of materials and equipment. The incumbent will work with on-campus facilities services and outside technicians as needed for the maintaining of the art facilities. The incumbent will direct the work of student assistants and provide administrative program support as needed.
Qualifications
Applicants must have equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art materials, supplies, and equipment. MFA in Studio Art is desirable. Applicants must have experience performing support services for an instructional art program involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing or storing materials, supplies, and servicing and maintaining equipment in the areas of painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, glass, wood, metal, and ceramics. Applicants must have a broad knowledge of the principles, terminology, and methodology of both 2D and 3D disciplines, along with a sound knowledge of methods, materials, problems, and aesthetic considerations. Applicants must have knowledge of a wide variety of sculpture, glass, wood, metal, painting, printmaking, and ceramics equipment and the ability to operate, maintain, adjust and repair such equipment. Applicant must have strong metal and wood fabrication skills including use of welding tools and woodworking equipment. Applicants must have the ability to use and instruct others in the safe use of sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood, metal, and printmaking equipment, and to effectively assist students with projects and equipment. Applicants must have the ability to lift and move heavy loads. Applicants must have knowledge of basic purchasing procedures, along with the ability to maintain inventory controls, estimate costs, and keep accurate records. The ability to organize and direct workflow of others is required, along with the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with professors, students, staff, vendors and others contacted in the course of performing assigned duties is required, along with the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
