Calling all artists. The Corning Museum of Glass has two opportunities for artists using glass to have their efforts recognized. Both have deadlines in October, offering the luxury of time to prepare the most compelling applications.
First, there’s New Glass Review, Corning’s exhibition-in-print of the most interesting new work in glass. Organizers are accepting applications to be included in this annual survey of glass in contemporary art, architecture, craft, and design. Open to both new and emerging artists, applicants must submit a CD with three clearly labeled high-resolution digital images (slides and e-mailed images will not be accepted). Each image should illustrate one work or design series in glass created between October 1, 2009, and October 1, 2010. Artists should download and complete the application, include a $20 entry fee, and complete the process before the October 1st deadline. (For questions, contact Violet Wilson at 607 974 8451).
For those looking to make new work rather than show it off, the
Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass has both artist-in-residence and researcher-in-residence programs, which offer the opportunity to spend a month in Corning trying new techniques in glass, enhancing their current work, or exploring the techniques of past glassmakers while using the resources of the world’s leading glass museum. Transportation, as well as room and board, will be arranged and basic supplies provided. The deadline to apply for a 2011 residency is October 31, 2010.
Interested artists must send to the address below the following materials: CD with 10 high-resolution digital images of their work, two letters of recommendation, written proposal detailing what the artist would like to do during his/her month-long residency, the best months to participate (generally offered in March, April, May, September, October, and November), and a résumé.
