Have you ever noticed all the glass you encounter every day in the city? From mosaics in the subway to windows in skyscrapers, glass makes our city a more vibrant and exciting place. Join us for Open Studios: Summer in the City and discover the many ways glass shapes the world around us with an afternoon of art making and exciting demonstrations in UrbanGlass’ 17,000 sq ft studios. Sign up for one activity or try them all!
*Masks are required. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver*
Bead Project Trunk Show & Satellite UrbanGlass|ware Store: Join us in celebrating the 25th anniversary of UrbanGlass’ Bead Project, and explore stunning jewelry made by alumni of the scholarship program available for purchase! This market will also feature a satellite booth of our store, featuring items made in the studio and by our Education team!
Demonstrations — FREE: Want a firsthand look at the glass techniques behind the objects we interact with everyday? Come and watch professional glassblowers make incredible art, see a simple method for slicing glass in half, and learn how a neon sign is made (all ages with chaperone).
Community Paper Mosaic & Bead Stringing — FREE: Get inspired by glass techniques and create art using everyday materials. Make a summer themed drawing for our community paper mosaic, or string colorful beads into a wearable creation to take home with you, or both! Group activity (all ages with chaperone).
Glassblowing Paperweight — $65: Feel the heat as you learn how to sculpt your own swirly color paperweight out of molten glass. One-on-one lesson (ages 12+).
Objects made during the lesson must cool slowly overnight, so please plan to return the following week for pickup, or contact us to arrange shipping.
Beadmaking — $25: Melt colorful glass rods in the flame of a table torch to create your very own wearable beads. One-on-one lesson (ages 12+).

Fused Coaster — $25: Design a picture or pattern and layer pieces of sheet glass into a colorful coaster that will get melted together in the kiln. Group lesson (all ages with chaperone).

Upcycled Planter — FREE: Give waste glass new life! Transform an upcycled glass bottle into a beautiful planter or bud vase with sandblasted decorations and colored pencil drawings. Group activity (all ages with chaperone).
