Lecture and Q&A with Antoine Leperlier on Pate de Verre and more
May 23rd, 20246:00 am - 7:00 pm
Join us at UrbanGlass on the evening of May 23 for a 6 PM lecture by French artist Antoine Leperlier, who is currently the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at the Musée du Verre in Conches, France. A descendant of the Art Nouveau master François-Émile Décorchemont, Leperlier will discuss his own work in pâte de verre and look back at the history of French artists who were using glass as a purely sculptural material long before the Studio Glass movement took shape in the U.S. in the 1960s. Learn how pâte de verre and the lost-wax techniques were pioneered in France by artists who were prominent members of the fine art world. Discover the rich historical context for the use of glass in French art, its aesthetic significance, and its enduring impact on the wider world of art and design. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Andrew Page, editor of Glass: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly.
