CLUE: Mr. Drury with Eyes Wide Open
September 6th – October 28th, 2017John Drury | Exhibitions
Curated by John Drury
On view September 6- October 28, 2017
In CLUE artist and longtime member of the UrbanGlass community John Drury surveys the current output of artists in New York City creating with glass.
Exhibiting artists include: Dorie Guthrie, Ancient Truth Investigators, Helena Parriott, Erica Rosenfeld, Esteban Salazar, Liesl Schubel, Leo Tecosky and Ben Wright
I have included in my effort those diverse artists representative the current generation at UrbanGlass - those individuals actively engaged in the day-to-day workings of the organization; carriers the torch if you will, attendants the game at hand.
And let me say, the species has not changed much - the many laboring beforehand are not forgotten but, here represented. My choices are made then not in disregard but, a certain unabashed reverence for the band of originators, as in community there is commonality - in commonality lies fruitful possibility. Think of this included group of makers then, as not “instead of” but, an addition too - representatives a past, in promise a glorious future; a mash-up of sensibilities in flux - fermented and growing in preparation yet another generation to surely follow; clue the impetus a glorious future. The artists included here, are humbly the fruit of 40 years labor.
In truth lies beauty. There is not simply the eye-quenching beauty of that ravenous orb itself but, that fertile reflection the ever-searching and investigative soul-the pressing being of sinewy creation.
CLUE then is another beast and like any lean animal captured, will twist and turn - frequently altered and re-arranged throughout the term of the exhibition. Works included in this presentation will act as game pieces of sorts, to reveal new understanding by fresh juxtaposition; words in a sentence, if you will, made increasingly potent and insightful by re-ordering, a baton passed.
Ours is a vitreous beast in flux.
