UrbanGlass is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Founded in 1977 as the first artist-access glass center in the United States, it is now the largest with 17,000 square feet of state-of-the-art studio space and a 3,000 square foot ground floor gallery and retail space on busy Fulton Street. Our mission seeks to foster experimentation and advance the use and critical understanding of glass as a creative medium.

UrbanGlass serves over 12,000 professional artists, students and members of the public annually seeking to learn about the possibilities of the material, and engage with the dynamic artists, curators and thinkers leading the conversation in contemporary art and design. Classes are offered to students at all skill levels and as young as 9 in a variety of techniques, including glassblowing, kiln work, flame work, mosaics, and neon. Over 5,500 students a year study and work with faculty that includes world-renowned artists and designers. 

UrbanGlass is hiring an Education Coordinator to join our small and busy team. Working in close coordination with the Director of Education, Registrar, and Youth & Outreach Coordinator, the Education Coordinator is in charge of the significant day-to-day logistics of our workshop, youth and university programs.

Primary responsibilities include: 

The Education Coordinator is responsible for the organization, procurement, and inventory of materials, tools, studios, and equipment for all classes. They serve as the primary contact for all instructors and interns, are responsible for staffing events and programs, and manage the extensive Education payroll. In addition, the Education Coordinator works with all instructors and collaborating organizations to collect logistical and promotional materials. They also organize all programming for our free Professional Development series.

The Coordinator will be called upon to coordinate, assist and promote a large variety of projects. In addition, this is a hands-on position and can be physically demanding at times. The Coordinator will also advise the Director of Education on future programming and will manage the department when the Director is out of the office. The Education Coordinator must possess the ability to simultaneously plan and manage in the immediate, short and long term time frames.


The ideal candidate is highly organized yet flexible, mission driven, and able to problem solve well both independently and as part of a team. The job requires a full time flexible work schedule that often includes both evening and weekend hours.The ability to keep multiple projects moving forward and juggling a variety of tasks on any given day is required. Experience with Excel and Adobe Suite a plus. Ideal candidates will have previous experience managing education programs or artist studios, and possess an extensive knowledge of glass techniques and materials or the ability and willingness to acquire this knowledge quickly. Passion for the arts, and commitment to artists, is a must.
