Baroque Not Broke: Sculpting at the Torch

This course will explore the many ways to heat and melt a variety of glass types at the torch. Class will cover the basics of borosilicate, soft, and recycled glass, and will focus on the ways to properly sculpt and shape the correct material for the project at hand. Discussions will also cover thinking about working bigger by utilizing components. Open to all skill levels.

Amber Cowan's sculptural glasswork is based around the use of recycled, upcycled, and second-life American pressed glass. She uses the processes of flameworking, hot-sculpting and glassblowing to create large-scale sculptures that overwhelm the viewer with ornate abstraction and viral accrual.
