Friday, January 25, UrbanGlass will host the fourth annual MFA Exhibition, featuring the work by recent graduates Joshua Cole, Katie Creyts, Nanda Soderberg and Hiromi Takizawa. The exhibition provides an international showcase for new and noteworthy talent in the field of contemporary glass. Each of the finalists will be represented by up to three art works in the exhibition.
Joshua Cole received his MFA in glass from Temple University. He is highly influenced by traditional Venetian glass blowing techniques. Katie Creyts is inspired by praxis of the fairytales, literary elements in the tales and their metaphoric evocations. She received her MFA from Illinois State University. Nanda Soderberg reinvents ordinary objects by transforming discarded materials into highly conceptual unique art works. He received his BFA in glass from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and attended Virginia Commonwealth University for his MFA. Hiromi Takizawa was born in Nagano Japan and recently completed her MA at California State University, Fullerton. For her, working with glass has provided a material identity for the confluence of Japanese and American cultural traditions.
The 2008 MFA Exhibition will be on view from January 25 through March 21, 2008 with an opening reception Friday, January 25 from 6:30 -8:30PM at The Robert Lehman Gallery @ UrbanGlass. Gallery hours: 10:00am -6:00 pm daily
