The Bead Project is a scholarship program designed for creatively inclined, economically disadvantaged women. Twice each year, we invite a cohort nine women to learn the art of glass beadmaking and simple jewelry fabrication techniques in our studio under the guidance of a professional artist. Upon completion of coursework at UrbanGlass, students go on to local free business development classes to cultivate the entrepreneurial skills necessary to market and sell their work. Students receive a kit containing the necessary tools and equipment for continuing to produce their work, and Bead Project graduates are invited to monthly workshops and masterclasses to enhance their skills. Less tangible but just as important, The Bead Project provides a supportive, creative environment where participants can develop self-confidence and imagine new possibilities for their lives.
