The Jerry Raphael MCGG Fellowship is funded through the generosity of the Metropolitan Contemporary Glass Group and hosted by UrbanGlass. The Fellowship award varies year to year based on MCGG member contributions; the minimum award is $2,000. The funds must be used to develop new art work and may be applied to studio fees for glassblowing, casting, kilnworking, neon, lampworking, stained glass, coldworking and sandblasting. Acid etching, technical assistance and materials are not eligible expenses. Some scale limitations exist. Glass experience is a requirement.
DURATION
The Fellowship will take place at UrbanGlass. Duration will be variable. The Fellowship may begin any time after the selection is announced, and must be concluded by December 20, 2008.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Two sets of application documents, must be typed, collated, with paper clips — no staples or folders—to include the following in order presented. Do not include extraneous materials; they will be discarded:
1. Completed application form.
2. Project proposal—one page only. Proposal should explain plans for use of the Jerry Raphael MCGG Fellowship, goals and artistic intentions.
3. Current resume.
4. CD with ten images and image list. Image list must give artist's name, title, date, medium, dimensions and may include one sentence per slide explaining work. Please submit jpg files (300 dpi at 4" x 6"), title images with your last name and the number corresponding to your image list, ex: Jones01.jpg.
5. One letter of recommendation.
6. Artist statement.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
ELIGIBILITY
B.A. Degree in Glass or equivalent.
No formal gallery affiliation.
Minimum intermediate level experience with glass.
Demonstrated commitment to glass.
Board members of UrbanGlass are not eligible.
SELECTIONS
One fellowship will be awarded per calendar year. The selection will be made by representatives of the Metropolitan Contemporary Glass Group and by the staff representative of UrbanGlass. The criteria are excellence, potential, commitment to glass, and degree to which the applicant would benefit from the Fellowship.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The Jerry Raphael MCGG Fellow must give a slide presentation, a demonstration or a gallery talk for the members of the Metropolitan Contemporary Glass Group. In addition, the Fellow is required to submit photo documentation of work accomplished at the end of the Fellowship period, and to credit both the Metropolitan Contemporary Glass Group and UrbanGlass when the work is exhibited. The Fellow must stay in contact with UrbanGlass and the MCGG for three years following the Fellowship by completing an annual questionnaire.
