edison Osorio Zapata

edison Osorio Zapata was born in Venezuela to Colombian migrants, but spent most of his youth in Australia where he trained in the culinary arts. This skill took him to Japan, where he opened a restaurant in Tokyo. In Japan, he developed an interest in art and pottery, which brought him back to Australia to study at the Canberra School of Arts with a major in glass. In 2004, he received a Japanese Government scholarship and completed his MFA at Tama Art University, Tokyo in 2007.

edison’s multicultural background precipitated his interest in the investigation of culture and language through the production of objects and installations. He is particularly concerned with communication and comprehension among various cultures, and he draws on his experiences as a foreigner assimilating himself into a new culture to instruct his art.
